Could the Sussexes really be leaving England? Ever since Prince Harry started dating Meghan Markle, our favourite royal redhead was doused with a whole new level of attention. Sure, sure, he was always known as the wild child with a less-than-princely reputation but once he and Meghan became a thing, that all changed. Granted, he was already gearing towards being a good guy, what with all his charitable work and general likability, but as far as his personal life went, this was all new. He was starting to be taken seriously and with Meghan by his side, the two have become a force to be reckoned with. Now that the couple is expecting their first child, the adoration is only expected to soar, which apparently means that members of the British Royal Family are worried that they could become “bigger than [Princess] Diana.”

“There have been various ideas floated for them to take on a job abroad, such as governor-general of Australia or Canada, wherever,” a palace source told The Sunday Times. But Canada was “mooted, then booted,” not only because Meghan has already lived here for a while but it would be way too close to where she was born and raised — and the American tabloids are a whole other beast. Australia was also shot down.

“The trouble is that you effectively set them up as king and queen of a whole separate country,” explained an insider. “And 24-hour media means that Australia is not as far away as it used to be.”

Now, Africa is a contender. Not only did Harry and Meghan fall in love in Botswana, but the continent is also where Harry focuses a lot of his work. Hell, Harry calls it his “second home.” And it seems Prince William is kinda-sorta hoping it’ll be his first.

“In some ways it would suit William to get his brother out of the country for a few years and Meghan as far away as possible,” claimed a friend of the brothers. It’s already begun, as Harry and Meghan reportedly feel like they’ve been “cut adrift,” what with moving out of the public eye, away from London and Kensington Palace over to the sticks and Frogmore Cottage. “They sent them down to Frogmore to try to keep them out of the limelight for a bit,” the source added. “This is doomed to fail. They are worried that Harry and Meghan are going to establish a totally separate enterprise that nobody can get under control.”

The friend continued: “There are discussions in palace circles about how do we harness Harry and Meghan and this tremendous global attention they get. How do we draw them back, because laying down the law and ticking them off doesn’t work at all.”

Though we take all of this with a grain of salt, it might be worth it to note that Buckingham Palace didn’t even deny the report.

Stay tuned.
