There have been a lot of weird celebrity products over the years. Jessica Simpson had an edible beauty line; Sylvester Stallone made high protein pudding; and of course, there’s the George Foreman grill (fun fact: George Foreman has five sons also named George Foreman and a daughter named Georgetta. We thought you should know that).

Those products are fine, we guess, but there’s a new celebrity entrepreneur in town. Justin Timberlake has invented what, until now, only nature has been able to perfect – the singer-songwriter-dancer-actor has created a new fruit. It’s called the braspberry and he first introduced the world to his creation in an Instagram video last December.

#Braspberry…

A post shared by Justin Timberlake (@justintimberlake) on

“Is it a coincidence that the blueberry fits in the raspberry perfectly? I think not,” he says in the video. Good point, Justin.

You might think that a dorky video like that would be something we all laugh at in the moment and then immediately forget about the next time a different celebrity does something marginally cute. Justin wasn’t done with his creation though. This month, he appeared in a commercial for the health drink company Bai (pronounced “Bye”) where he once again shared his new revolutionary berry hybrid.

Justin has done ads for the company before (most notably this 2018 Super Bowl commercial) and apparently takes his role as their “Chief Flavour Officer” very seriously. He is also an investor in the company which boasts the lofty goal of creating “a world full of flavour and packed with goodness” in all their beverages.

Again, cute and funny for those of us who remember the Instagram video, super random for those who missed it. But shtick didn’t end there. Shortly after the video was posted, berry producer and distributor Driscoll’s announced a new product inspired by the new Timberlake creation: “handpicked” and “handstuffed” packaged braspberries, coming soon to a grocery store near you.

Seriously though, you might be able to buy these things at some point. Driscoll’s confirmed to Food & Wine that the product is currently being packaged for promotional purposes but may actually make it to grocery store shelves if they can find a way to streamline production. The delicate work of putting one berry into another seems awfully unnecessary and labour intensive, but the company’s marketing director said, “Driscoll’s is working quickly to look for ways to scale for potential retail sales.”

So long story short: Justin Timberlake noticed that blueberries fit inside raspberries and now we may be able to buy them that way. What a strange world.
