Attention hot sauce lovers: We have some breaking (and probably life-altering) news for you.
Some of you have been living a lie. An undeniably hot and sometimes taste-bud-destroying lie, but a lie nonetheless. Ladies, you’re safe, but fellas? Prepare to get burned. It turns out that you only douse your food with Sriracha, Tabasco or any other hot sauce, because you just want to show your friends how brave/cool you are. That’s at least what one hot sauce study is saying.
A group of researchers from Pennsylvania State University have been seriously looking at the correlation between hot sauce dependency and personality. In an earlier study, the team concluded that people who love action movies and adventure were more likely to enjoy the burn of a spicy meal. Now they’ve taken it further by dividing it down the gender line.
Participants were required to sample a number of foods in a lab setting and rate how they liked each item, and these results were then paired with answers from individual personality quizzes. Based on the culled data, the study concluded that man’s love for all things spicy stems from their need to look manly, while women just like spicy food and the sting that comes along with it.
So, basically men are poseurs and women are just hot as hell (literally). Shocker.
