Brace yourselves guys, because we’ve just taken man jewellery to a whole new level.
Building on the trend of thick leather bracelets, beaded necklaces and extra chunky man rings comes the ultimate manly twist on the latest ’90s-resurrected fashion must-have: the choker. That’s right, men’s chokers are now available for sale on ASOS, and naturally, people have some pretty strong reactions to the whole thing.
Men’s chokers…. I’m done. Bye.

We mean, in reality, are “men’s chokers” that bad? Why should only women benefit from the style? From what we can tell, it’s a trend that started surfacing on craft sites like Etsy late last year, so obviously there’s a demand for them (regular sized chokers meant for women won’t fit many men). As for calling them men’s chokers, well that’s not what ASOS is branding them as, but if you search for them, that’s what comes up. Complete with pictures of male models showing them off, of course.
On the flip side, there’s a bunch of people defending the fashion statement online too, which tends to happen when you have such a hotly contested piece of pop culture at people’s jugular.
weird that “men’s chokers” are *now* a thing, funny that, i’ve worn chokers dozens of times before, what was i doing then? cross-dressing? 🙄

Where ever you fall on the men’s choker spectrum, it makes total sense that ASOS is the company behind the commercialization of them. After all, these are the same people that gave us fake animal tails, giant pom-poms on everything and extra long jeans that no one in their right mind would ever be able to wear.
Chokers designed for men don’t seem so bad now, do they?
