Avengers: Infinity War kicked some major butt this weekend

Was this really surprising? According to Disney Worldwide Distribution Chief Davis Hollis, yes, yes it was.

Avengers: Infinity War Hulk-smashed box office records, raking over $320 million in North America and close to $411 million internationally. That totals to just over $731 million globally, knocking Star Wars: The Force Awakens out of top spot.

The numbers were “unexpected and unlike anything that anyone would have projected,” Hollis told Deadline. “Honestly, this is a result that goes unbelievably beyond what anyone would have expected. But it’s also a reflection of what 10 years of really methodical work and a great campaign, and an unbelievably strong movie and every single person being in the movie and what that means for driving people into cinemas.”

Infinity War now also holds the record for the top worldwide opening weekend of all time (previously held by The Fate of the Furious‘ $696 million), as well as biggest domestic opening, surpassing Force Awakens‘ $318 million back in 2015.

Holding out for her

While Kanye West‘s Twitter feed reads like a hodge podge of crap, Parkland school shooting survivor Emma González‘s is the polar opposite. It’s filled with words of strength and empowerment that inspire, like a bright light on a dark day. And even Kanye is inspired. OK, in a bit of a superficial way but inspired nonetheless.

Sure, it’s about the haircut but, still. It’s something, right? Not to González, who, rather than be impressed or even acknowledge West, she celebrated her own hero: James Shaw Jr., the man who not only made news for stopping the Waffle House shooter before he could’ve killed more people, but also for raising $212,000 to go towards the victims’ families.

Did Kanye really expect Emma to be impressed by his shoutout? González has called out President Donald Trump and called for stricter gun laws since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that killed 17 people. Of course, she wasn’t rude, she simply didn’t return or acknowledge the compliment. Emma’s response was perfection. Just like her.

Yikes, Melania Trump is a prisoner in her own home

Last week, while most of the attention was on Trump and French president Emmanuel Macron, First Lady Melania Trump spent time with Brigitte Macron. And Brigitte had a lot to say about Melania.

According to Brigitte, Melania “cannot do anything,” telling French newspaper Le Monde on Friday. “She can’t even open a window at the White House. She can’t stick her nose outside. She’s much more constrained than I am. Me, every day, I’m out in Paris.”

Aside from the obvious reasons Melania always looks unhappy, Brigitte also believes the media and public scrutiny is a huge part of it.

“Everything is interpreted, over-interpreted,” she said. “She’s someone who has a strong personality, but works hard to hide it. She laughs very easily, at everything, but shows it less than I do.” She also described Melania as “really fun” and said they laughed a lot and share “the same sense of humour.”

Oh, Melania. Get out. While you can.

Prince Louis already has a namesake friend

Not sure whose pal is in a higher place — Prince Louis of Cambridge or One Direction member Louis Tomlinson. Actually, scratch that. Royalty trumps world-famous boy bands and Tomlinson knows it.

Twitter really wanted to believe the royal baby was named after Tomlinson, so much so that the singer seemed to want to believe it too. He greeted Will and Kate‘s third child with a message and a gift.

No offence Louis, but the prince’s name is rooted from all kinds of tradition. And Tomlinson isn’t sweating it. He’s got his own kid (two-year-old son Freddie) to worry about. But hey, maybe a future play date is in order.

Ann Curry reveals she reported Matt Lauer’s sexual harassment in 2012

It’s been five months since Matt Lauer was ousted from Today after multiple women came forward with allegations of his sexual misconduct. Lauer denied the accusations then — and continues to deny them now — but that didn’t stop his wife, Annette Roque, from kicking him out. They’re now in the midst of a messy divorce and things are only getting messier.

In a report from the Washington Post, Ann Curry says that in 2012, she told NBC execs that Lauer sexually harassed a female colleague but nothing was done. Sigh.

“A woman approached me and asked me tearfully if I could help her,” Curry told the Post. “She was afraid of losing her job … I believed her.”

Curry said she told two of her superiors about the complaint, but didn’t name them. “I told management they had a problem and they needed to keep an eye on him and how he deals with women,” she told the Post.

An NBC spokesman, however, told the Washington Post there is no record of Curry’s complaint, nor was it noted in Lauer’s personnel file.

“Matt was genuinely surprised Ann spoke to The Washington Post on the record stating she had gone to management at NBC while [they] both were anchors of Today and made a complaint on behalf of someone that he had been sexually harassing the staff member,” an insider told Us Weekly. “No one ever spoke to Matt about it at the time, and the executive producer at the time, Jim Bell, was also unaware of the very serious allegation Ann was making against Matt.”

So another denial. Huh. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what else surfaces. Because you know it isn’t over.
