We all remember Baby Phat, right? The bedazzled cat decals, the chunky gold hoops, the boots with the fur. It’s a fashion era we could never forget (and may even look back on fondly), but it’s certainly MILES away from what we consider trendy right now. Well, in the same style as scrunchies, leggings and mom jeans, Baby Phat is back and it’s coming back to hit you right in the nostalgic feels.

That’s right, Phat lovers, model and designer Kimora Lee Simmons, who launched the brand back in 1998 under her then-husband Russell Simmons’ Phat Fashions label, is collaborating with Forever 21 on an all-new (but also very familiar looking) collection.

Kimora’s been teasing for a while that the brand would be making a resurgence—announcing on International Women’s Day this year that she had bought Baby Phat back from clothing manufacturer Kellwood Company. She said at the time she was planning a major re-launch for summer 2019. Well, ’tis the season, and sure enough, Baby Phat is here.

The line consists of 18 pieces all characteristic to the original vibe of the brand. Yes, that means rhinestones, cropped zip-ups and, of course, the iconic cat logo plastered all over everything. This is early aughts nostalgia at its finest. We can’t wait to get on MSN Messenger and tell all our friends.

Notice any familiar faces in that ad? The promo material features Kimora’s daughters Ming Lee Simmons and Aoki Lee Simmons as well as Diddy and the late Kim Porter’s twins, Jessie and D’Lila Combs. Honestly, those girls seem like the perfect choices to usher in the new era of Baby Phat. Talk about passing the torch!

According to a statement Kimora gave to Refinery 29, this limited launch is just a taste of what’s to come with a full collection launching in September—just in time for back to school! Unfortunately, the Baby Phat X Forever 21 collab isn’t available in Canada, but fingers crossed we’ll be able to fill out closets with items from the fall launch.
