Every parent knows the frustration of a baby’s cry.
Is it hungry? Did it soil its diaper? Is it just trying to torture you?!
You run through your usual list of solutions: First a bottle, then a fresh diaper, then a pacifier–but nothing works. And then the baby just cries and cries…and cries some more.
Well fear not, parents of the world. A solution has finally arrived! The Infant Cries Translator app, available for $3.49 on Apple’s App store and Google Play, boasts that it can determine what your baby is trying to say through all those tears. Whenever the little rascal starts to fuss, just record the baby’s cries with the app and it will give you one of four possible meanings: hungry, tired, in pain or soiled diaper.
A research team created the app by analyzing 200,000 different kinds of crying sounds, so its result is more than just an educated guess. The only catch? The baby has to cry for a full 15 seconds (although that shouldn’t be too much of a challenge, amirite?).
Before you buy the app though, just keep in mind some pediatricians warn against its use.
