Say what you will about her spotty dating record (c’mon, who among us doesn’t have a Brit with a terrible hairdo in our romantic history?) but Taylor Swift is the salt of the earth. Forget about the millions of dollars she’s given to charity over the course of her short career ($4 million to the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame, half a million to towns in Tennessee that were destroyed by flooding in 2010, a quarter of a million to tornado relief in Alabama — we could go on) and take a look at this video of her visiting a five-year-old boy with leukemia at a Boston hospital earlier this week:
See? Something good came out of Swifty dating Donnie Darko. ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together‘ is obviously this little kid’s jam. And how sweet is she with him? It’s a good thing that Spider Man showed up the day before because Taylor would have been a tough act to follow.
This isn’t the only time the pop star has gotten involved in helping out kids with cancer. She also visited Khloe last May:
In 2012, Swift read a blog written by the mother of a four-year-old cancer patient named Ronan Thompson. Ronan had lost his fight with the disease but Taylor, using Ronan’s mom’s blog entries, wrote a song in his memory and donated the proceeds from its release to Stand Up To Cancer. Check out Swift performing the song below. (But make sure you have a wad of tissues on hand. Seriously — this one’s a heartbreaker.)
Speaking of heartbreak, earlier this summer Taylor helped out a fan who was suffering from an unrequited crush, giving her some advice on love and self-esteem by way of Instagram. “Feel good about being the kind of person who loves selflessly,” she typed in her lengthy and heartfelt response. “I think someday you’ll find someone who loves you in that exact same way.” Hands up if you wish you’d had a big sister like her when you were a teenager.
When love works out, Taylor’s there, too, celebrating the happy couple. Swift had promised to attend the wedding of a longtime fan but when her schedule wouldn’t allow it, she surprised the bride-to-be at her wedding shower. She even brought a gift — a Kitchen Aid mixer and some baking supplies.
Swifty isn’t always so prepared though. She was caught empty-handed when she ran into a fan in New York recently so Taylor gave the girl, who was on her way to her birthday dinner with friends, $90 to cover the meal. ($90 and an unforgettable photo op, that is.)

Apparently there were a lot of people celebrating birthdays in the park that day. That, or Taylor’s just generous with her fans.
But perhaps the behaviour that demonstrates her awesomeness best is her support of her pal and tourmate Ed Sheeran. Taylor is the singer-songwriter’s biggest fan. She plugs his record on Twitter and Instagram.
She makes him Drake-inspired needlepoint crafts
And she does all this despite the fact that he’s written several hit songs for One Direction — her ex-boyfriend’s “band”.
Now that is true friendship.
