That’s right, fellow Ontarians. That bottle of “cheap” cooking wine and that bottle of nice, red wine you like to crack out on date night is about to get more expensive than it already is. Ontario Premiere Kathleen Wynne released her budget for 2016 and, you guessed it, wine prices are about to surge.

We’re about to tell you something, and we can without a doubt, guarantee that you’ll be very frustrated: more than sixty per cent of the cost of a wine bottle is tax. Ridiculous, right?

And these high prices are about to go up even more thanks to those very same taxes. Ontario will be raising the cost of wine two per cent in 2016, then another two per cent in the next two years, then another 1 per cent in 2019.

It’s madness, we know. And so does the Canadian Taxpayer Association. They’ll be petitioning the growing cost of wine because as much as we all like it, no one likes it that much.

Check out the video above to learn more about the rising price of wine.
