There’s been another victory in the world of Dad Fashion with the marriage of a top-shelf luxury style brand and a maker of uber-casual footwear. Ladies and gentlemen (and little children who will also love these), meet the Balenciaga platform Croc, which sold out from Barney’s New York within hours of being listed.
Behold, the future of overpriced, rubber footwear:

This high-fashion take on the once popular (and now popular again?) foam slip-on sandals first hit the scene at Paris Fashion Week during Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway show last year.
When models started down the catwalk in these lifted foam clogs last October, the social media reaction to Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia’s latest work was mixed…and by “mixed” we do mean quite confused and mildly offended:
What’s uglier than a croc? A platform croc, at Balenciaga pic.twitter.com/0c9vuRVzG9

In 2017, the world seemed to be still figuring out how and if to wear regular Crocs, both from a style and practicality standpoint, but judging by the way the new high-fashion footwear sold out on February 1st of this year (sorry, there’s no link to shop today), the world now appears ready for this Croctrocity.
Visually, the $850 pairs are graced with the the same hole-y design, button-on bedazzling options and pastel colours, and are made from the same proprietary type of foam, Croslite. Where they differ, however, is in the 10 cm of lifted platform, the Balenciaga tag and the nearly 5x price point.
Something tells us the dads who so embraced the original Croc (with or without socks) will have a tougher time getting behind this pricey, high-fashion version. Their kids, on the other hand…
