Following the heartbreaking passing of her father, George Floyd, which inspired the global resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, Gianna Floyd has received an influx of condolences and support. And now, thanks to Barbra Streisand herself, Gianna is officially a Disney shareholder. In an Instagram post, the 6-year-old thanked Streisand, proudly holding in her hands what appeared to be a Walt Disney Company stock certificate and a signed letter. The caption read, "Thank you @barbrastreisand for my package, I am now a Disney Stockholder thanks to you."
The 78-year-old icon also sent Gianna two of her albums, "My Name Is Barbra" and "Color Me Barbra.” Gianna’s Instagram account, which is only a few days old, has already amassed over 59,000 followers. Commenting on her newly acquired shares, Disney star Josh Gad said, "Well, now that you're a Disney stockholder, let me know if you want a special message from Olaf." Stephen Jackson (a long-time friend of Floyd’s) also wrote, “The World is yours GiGi.” The picture doesn’t disclose how many shares Gianna received, but Disney stocks are known for their positive, long-term returns. With this gesture, Streisand joins the likes of Kanye West, who recently created a 529 college savings plan to cover Gianna’s tuition.
She also thanked the rapper and his wife, Kim Kardashian via Instagram shout out, writing, “Thank You Kanye, Because of You I Will have a college Education... Mommy and I are so thankful for you and your family”. Her family also set up “The George and Gianna Floyd Foundation,” where supporters can send what they feel from the heart. Although Streisand hasn’t addressed her gift to Gianna on her social platforms, the singer has been vocal in her support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
In a video shared to Instagram, she showed footage of a peaceful protest in honour of Floyd, writing “A beautiful moment of silence for George Floyd in Minneapolis yesterday. There’s such power in solidarity - and it can all be done non-violently. What happened to George is a modern-day lynching.” [video_embed id='1977626']RELATED: Beyoncé pens powerful letter demanding justice for Breonna Taylor.[/video_embed]
