If you think mermaid tails aren’t manly, think again. After transforming themselves into mermaids, a team of Canadian men managed to raise over $300,000 for a great cause while working to redefine masculinity. And what could possibly be sexier than that?
The Newfoundland and Labrador Beard and Moustache Club put together a jaw-dropping calendar full of tasteful photos capturing 30 bearded men lounging around in full-on mermaid attire.
According to Hasan Hai, the club’s organizer, the calendar was meant to widen the world’s perception of masculinity. So they combined the idea of bearded men and mermaids — two things we typically associate as opposites — in their merb’ys calendar for 2018. (The word merb’ys is a mix between ‘mermaid’ and ‘b’y,’ which is slang for boy or buddy in Newfoundland.)
“We presented ourselves in a very vulnerable way physically and emotionally, and showed the world that it’s okay,” said Hai.
“We’d take our shirts off, and put some tails on,” he continued. “We stepped outside of our own comfort zones, sometimes showing our lumps and our bumps.” And at the end of the day, it was absolutely worth it.
The $300,000 raised from the calendar was donated to Spirit Horse NL, an organization that provides therapy horses to improve the mental health of adults and children.
What an amazing feeling to have been part of this wildly successful campaign. @SpiritHorseNL deserves every penny to help them make their programs accessible to those who need it the most. pic.twitter.com/68p8y4fPnK

With an ear-to-ear smile like this one, how could you not be a merb’ys fan?
