Instead of feeling guilty for choosing a drink over exercise, now, you can have your cake brew and eat drink it too.

Let us introduce you to Berlin-born company BierYoga, which teaches a yoga class where your bottle of beer becomes part of your stretching routine. Leave it to Germany to blend two of our favourite things together.

“BeerYoga is the marriage of two great loves — beer and yoga. Both are centuries-old therapies for body, mind and soul,” the official BierYoga website explains. “The joy of drinking beer and the mindfulness of yoga compliment each other, and make for an energizing experience.”

We have to admit, we’ve never thought about beer and yoga like that before. But we kind of agree.

Certified yoga instructors Emily and Jhula are not only passionate about their practice, they also care for their beer. “Both are important things in our lives. Why not combine them?” they ask on their website.

According to Vice, the duo initially got the idea at Burning Man. So, it’s not necessarily a new invention, but they’ve sure done a bang-up job on their brand positioning, including choosing the beer-lovers haven of Berlin to launch the business.

So who attends BierYoga?

“I’ve had all kinds of people — students, but also Tinder dates, policemen. Some people bring their parents. It’s a very mixed crowd,” Jhula told Vice.

And the class isn’t just for Berlin residents anymore. BierYoga is expanding, making its way to Australia with classes popping up at pubs all around both Melbourne and Sydney.

This events page on Facebook offers some of the details on an upcoming weekend class, which lists the cost as $10, plus beer, which you buy from the bar. So, it’s around the same price as a drop-in yoga class in most Canadian cities.

We’re not sure about you, but we’re crossing our fingers and our toes that Canada’s next on the expansion list. Hey, BeirYoga team, we love pints and pigeon poses out here in the Great White North too!
