Bella Hadid is so hot right now. That must be why she’s dressing for maximum cooling effect.
The 19-year-old model wore what can barely be considered a gown on the Cannes red carpet this week. It didn’t leave much to the imagination. The ultra low-cut top of the dress was revealing, sure, but it’s the sky-high slit that exposed her inner hip and thigh that’s got us talking. Why does that part of the body feel so private? We feel like we can see too much. DO we advert our eyes?
Thing is, Bella is actually two years behind the trend. Back in 2014, at the MTV VMAs, Brit pop star Rita Ora wore a very similar red gown. Same colour. Same cut. Same should-we-be-looking-at-this-part-of-her-body slit that exposed her gams and then some.
This aggressive slit is definitely a trend. Kendall Jenner shocked all at the 2014 MMVAs, when she was seen wearing a long-sleeved white gown with the double slits up both sides.
After all, these ultra sky-high slits are super sexy.
It’s like we’ve become so desensitized by cleavage, stomachs, and legs. And now, this little extra tiny bit of flesh around the inner hip area—a part that is usually covered by underwear, swimsuit bottoms, or, like most of us, pants—feels somehow scandalous.
Honestly, it feels like the word “slit” will no longer suffice in this situation. It’s more of a “slash,” really—it’s like the difference between a creek and a river.
And retailers have caught on. You can buy a “Rita Ora A-Line Spaghetti Straps Taffeta Sexy Side Split Backless Prom Party Dress” online.
Not that we’re upset by this trend. Or that Bella is wearing it. The brunette beauty is so stunning, and we admire her confidence for rockin’ the Alexander Vaulthier creation. She looks hot, and she knows it.
The internet knows it, too:
