You probably remember how much fun it was to get a loot bag as a child.

The mystery of what was inside, the big reveal and then actually getting to play with whatever toys you pulled out–it was practically like getting an early Christmas present. That’s why we’re thrilled that an LCBO in Waterloo, Ont. has come up with loot bags that are made for adults. Yes, that’s right–adults. Because it’s not like the excitement of opening one goes away just because we’ve aged a few years.

At the liquor store on Northfield Drive, there’s a display labelled “Surprise Bag”. Each one contains four beers selected by “beer-loving staff”, according to a sign on the rack. The idea for the bags came after employees started wondering what to do with loose beers that survived a spill. One of them suggested creating adult loot bags by rounding up those single cans and packaging them (that person should get a raise, btw). The bags even come complete with customized labels like “I.P. Eh” or “Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder”.

They usually retail for around $12.

So far, the idea has been a huge success. In the first two weeks, the Northfield location sold more than 200 bags, and the idea has now spread to other LCBO stores. There are also plans to expand the bags to include wine and coolers.

We honestly hope other provinces in Canada adopt the idea too, because it’s pretty awesome.
