Blue Ivy Carter may seem like she’s all wise and grown-up but, no, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eldest child does go to school and gets an education that will only make her smarter and sassier in the years to come. And if you didn’t think the Carters were hands-on parents, think again.

Fred Savage may be the last person you would associate with Bey and Jay but his knowledge of their parenting skills is firsthand. The actor and his wife, Jennifer Lynn Stone, have three kids, who attend the same school as Blue Ivy. “My kids and her daughter go to the same school in Los Angeles,” Savage said during a recent episode of PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing, where he admitted how nervous he was to approach the superstar.

“It took me a while to go up to her ’cause it’s like … ‘What do I talk to Beyoncé about?'” So he figured he’d lead with the fact that they co-starred in the 2002 movie Austin Powers in Goldmember and crossed his fingers that she remembered him. “At one point I was like, ‘Hey, I’m Fred, we did this movie together,'” he recalled. “She goes, ‘I know who you are. I saw you at the beginning of the year, I just didn’t want to come up and say hi and bother you.'” WHAT. And, naturally, Fred responded in the most Kevin Arnold way possible: “I’m like, ‘Well, let’s clear the air. You can bother me whenever you want,'” adding that, “She’s great.”

What’s also great, according to Savage, is how active Bey and Jay are in the school community. “She and Jay are great parents, they’re active parents, they’re at school,” he detailed. “All the kids at the end of the year do this big Olympics thing, and they are out there having picnics, sitting on the field with a blanket. They’re great parents.”

Fred recounted one instance. “I remember walking by and seeing — in the kindergarten, there’s like little windows in the door — and Jay was playing peek-a-boo in the window. It’s amazing to see these titans of art and culture and business, these huge totemic figures just being mom and dad. It’s awesome.” It’s bananas to think that just because they are these superstars some people think they are a certain way. And, yes, this is the Carters we’re talking about but bottom line, they’re also just parents, doing their thing, and doing whatever they can for their kids.

As for Fred and Bey, don’t think they’ve become besties. In fact, Savage admitted that one meeting was the last time he chatted with her. “I was like, ‘Beyoncé, so nice to talk to you, but go with that instinct because I’m probably busy at school. So let’s just like have this moment and not ruin it,'” he joked. “And by the way, she was fine with it. She was like ‘Great, on board’ and we have not spoken since. But we had that moment and I hold on dearly to it.”

Until the next end-of-year event.
