It’s kind of shocking that, aside from the odd collaboration with Kate Moss here and there, Topshop hasn’t had any celebrities working with them. Until now. And what better and bigger star for the London-based company to team up with than Beyoncé.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the superstar has formed a partnership with the company to produce athletic streetwear suitable for dance and sports.
Beyoncé says in a statement, “I could not think of a better partner as I continue to grow (my) business. I have always loved Topshop for its fashion credentials and forward thinking. Working with its development team to create and produce a technical and fashion-led collection is exciting and I’m looking forward to participating in all aspects of this partnership.”
Topshop owner Sir Philip Green said that it’s not a collaboration, rather “a separate, proper business,” and it works out perfectly as they have been eyeing the athletic sector for a while. “It’s something we need to be in.”
Considering Topshop’s edgy style and Queen B’s penchant for over-the-top get-ups, the partnership with Bey seems like
destiny’s child destiny. Her goal is to “create and produce a technical and fashion-led collection” and plans to “participate in all aspects of the partnership.”
The Topshop-Beyoncé collection will include apparel, footwear and accessories for dance, fitness and sports. The target is women who go to yoga classes and the gym, as well as for those who just want to look like they do.
Topshop operates in Hudson’s Bay stores in Canada, so we can’t wait to see the sexy but practical crop tops, chic yoga pants and fab kicks Bey will inspire. The brand, which has yet to decide on an official name, is due to launch next fall. What about “We Flawless”? Just saying.
