The GLAAD Media Awards marked its big 3-0 this year with a celebration of love and acceptance like never before. The annual awards show had Hollywood’s best and brightest get together to show their support for LGBTQ+ people and the issues that effect them by honouring media that depicts “fair, accurate, and inclusive representations” of the community.
This year, GLAAD honoured legends Beyoncé and JAY-Z with the Vanguard Award for the way music and allyship has positively impacted the LGBTQ+ community. The power couple gave a rousing acceptance speech where they talked about their inspirations and sent a message of love to people everywhere.
In honour of the couple, two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race competitor, Shangela, performed a lip-sync to a medley of Beyoncé’s greatest hits (Bey totally loved it).
Of course, all the stars who attended looked dazzling, with Jonathan Van Ness, Antoni Porowski and the rest of the Queer Eye gang looking fabulous, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow, Allison Janney, Lea Michele, Jameela Jamil and more hitting the red carpet like it was their day job (but it’s really their night job).
Check out the star-studded red carpet below:
Beyoncé, the Fab 5 and more dazzle at the GLAAD Awards
Allison JanneyThursday night, Allison Janney presented Sean Hayes with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award for his commitment to telling LGBTQ+ stories. The seasoned actress pulled off a sleek and sparkly look in this vibrant Sally LaPointe midi dress. We’re also loving the strawberry-blonde tresses, Allison. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Meghan TrainorWhen we think monochromatic, we rarely think yellow is the way to go, but when you’re as sunny and bright as Meghan, it just makes sense. She looks remarkable and the yellow eye makeup just seals the deal. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Beyoncé and JAY-ZThese two didn’t walk the red carpet – they rarely do – but Bey posted pics of herself and Jay on her Instagram. They looked every inch the dapper couple they are, reminding everyone that a good suit, or blazer-as-dress, goes a long way. Take note, people!@beyonce/Instagram
Gwyneth PaltrowGwyneth usually goes for a sleek minimalist look, but she took the opportunity Thursday night to have a little fun. The actress presented the award for Outstanding Film to Love, Simonin a pink feathery Peter Pilotto blouse and shimmery dress pants. Looks like Gwyn really can do it all. Jameela JamilWe assume Jameela’s primary job on the carpet was to tell each and every person there that they were beautiful and should love themselves but our Self-Love Queen was looking pretty darn fine herself in this black Christian Siriano number with patent leather boots. Also, that dramatic eye makeup is to die for.LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
The Fab 5 (minus 1)It was Jonathan Van Ness’s birthday Thursday night and we can’t think of a better gift than hanging out with your Queer Eye pals (minus Karamo Brown) and winning Outstanding Reality Program. Plus he and co-stars Antoni Porowski, Tan France and Bobby Berk were a picture of perfection, each rocking their own individual styles. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Lea MicheleNewlywed Lea was giving us “Meghan Markle Second Wedding Dress” vibes in this silky Galvan cocktail gown. And we can’t blame her. The singer/actress just got back from her honeymoon with hubby Zandy Reich. She’s glowing, no? LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Olivia MunnOlivia Munn went for a bold look in this sheer peacock emblazoned Yanina Courture gown. The design may have been overwhelming in anything other than black, but done up like this, it’s just perfect. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Adam LambertWho would have thought when we saw Adam on American Idol in 2009, he would have been touring with Queen, performing at the Oscars and slaying red carpets the world over 10 years later? Adam is rocking this chocolate brown suit look and we’re loving the longer locks. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
ShangelaIf you’re going to perform Beyoncé, you better bring the glam and Shangela owned both the stage and the carpet Thursday night. Her look might have been the complete opposite of her idol, but that gorgeous crushed rose Walter Collection ball gown is a stunner. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Stephanie BeatrizStephanie’s look is so drop dead spectacular, we don’t even know where to start. Everything is going right with this asymmetrical skirt and crop top two-piece from the one voluminous sleeve to the perfectly-slit bottom. The real star of the show may be that incredible braid though. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Melissa FumeroStephanie’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Melissa went a different direction for the awards with a flowy pale teal gown. It’s so light and airy-looking, it practically defies gravity. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
Logan BrowningOnly one word comes to mind looking at Dear White People’s Logan Browning in this velvet PatBO gown -- striking. The actress was smouldering on the carpet with that plunging neckline and complimentary teal eyeshadow. Plus, those gold drop earrings make the perfect single accessory. LISA O'CONNOR/AFP/Getty Images
