In case you’ve never been to a Justin Bieber concert, he makes a point of meeting with his fans. Sure, they spend $2,000 on one of those VIP packages, but he still makes the time. So, by the time his Purpose World Tour is over, that’ll mean 114 shows in North America and Europe. Which would also mean 114 meet-and-greets. But sadly, the singer announced on Tuesday (March 22) that those special moments for his fans are no more.

It was a lengthy Instagram post Justin wrote, accompanying a pic of himself with a young fan, in which he admits that he enjoys “meeting such incredible people,” but ends up “feeling so drained” afterwards.

He says he wants “to make people smile and happy but not at my expense and I always leave feeling mentally and emotionally exhausted to the point of depression.”

Bieber adds in his post how overwhelmed he feels by failing to meet fans’ expectations. “Never want to disappoint but I feel I would rather give you guys the show and my albums as promised.

“Can’t tell you how sorry I am, and wish it wasn’t so hard on me.. And I want to stay in the healthy mindset I’m in to give you the best show you have ever seen.”

Love u guys.. I’m going to be canceling my meet and greets. I enjoy meeting such incredible people but I end up feeling so drained and filled with so much of other people’s spiritual energy that I end up so drained and unhappy.. Want to make people smile and happy but not at my expense and I always leave feeling mentally and emotionally exhausted to the point of depression .. The pressure of meeting people’s expectations of what I’m supposed to be is so much for me to handle and a lot on my shoulders. Never want to disappoint but I feel I would rather give you guys the show and my albums as promised. Can’t tell you how sorry I am, and wish it wasn’t so hard on me.. And I want to stay in the healthy mindset I’m in to give you the best show you have ever seen 😉

So, the meet-and-greets are depressing him. According to Idolator, which first reported that it was a security incident that caused the cancellations, anyone who has already bought those pricey tickets can still see his concert and share a lounge with him after, but there’s no guarantee of a group photo like in the past.

It’s easy to slam him but there are many performers who’ve never had this kind of interaction with their fans, so what Biebs has done previously is to be commended. We suppose we can chalk it up to part of his self-imposed revamp, and him wanting — and more importantly, needing — to do what’s best for himself but one thing’s for sure. There are going to be a lot more lonely ladies who won’t get those selfies with Justin. Not to mention their kids. But, hey, as long as he’s in the healthiest mindset possible, that should satisfy them, right?
