Justin Bieber shocked the world last week when he cancelled the remaining dates of his Purpose tour. What was worse is that he didn’t tell his fans directly and, instead, a rep issued one of those vague statements that no one wants to hear. Word got out that he was simply “over it,” so his manager Scooter Braun had to step in to smooth things over with a more personal note. But, again, that still wasn’t enough for those who wanted to hear directly from Bieber. And Justin knew that, but it seemed he was already on his self-imposed timeout and wouldn’t address it.
Well, it seems he needed a break from his break because the singer took to Instagram to say all the things that were on his mind. Bieber explained in the lengthy post that his actions were absolutely necessary but he also acknowledges that while he’s “extremely blessed,” he wants his career to be “sustainable.” And that’s the kicker right there.
Biebs packed a lot into what looks to be a photo of text on a computer or tablet screen, and it’s clear he needs to take some time to and for himself. He doesn’t want to burn out, he wants to be the best person he can be, and he wants to learn and grow from his mistakes and experiences. Many call him an immature brat for bailing but his heartfelt words are proof that he’s finally growing and maturing into a decent man.
At the same time, though, he’s only 23 and up until now, most of his time in the spotlight has been working on his music. So if sustainability is the goal, his break is not only a necessity but much-deserved. Too many performers push themselves to the brink and it seems Bieber has finally surrounded himself with the right people who saw some not-so-good signs and advised him to scale it back. Or perhaps he made the decision on his own. Either way, it’s a choice well made. Because a cancelled tour might be heartbreaking to fans, but the end of his career would be much worse.
