Step aside, evil step-sisters! There’s a new fairy godmother in town, ready to make all our dreams come true.
Emmy-award winning Pose star Billy Porter is reportedly in talks to join Camila Cabello in the upcoming remake of Cinderella.
Back in April it was announced that the “Cry for Me” singer would be taking on the titular role in the new movie version of the fairy tale, produced by our favourite Carpool Karaoke host James Corden. While Sony has remained pretty tight-lipped about the casting for the new film, we do know that the storyline will be a modern reimagining of the classic tale, directed by Blockers filmmaker Kay Cannon.
If this new deal goes through, Porter will follow in some pretty fabulous footsteps (hello, 1997’s live-action Cinderella starring Whitney Houston as the fairy godmother) and is exactly what the story needs to sashay into 2019. If you’re not convinced, here’s three reasons why:
Billy Porter knows how to make an entrance
Remember this year’s Met Gala? Billy all but owned the red carpet when he showed up bedazzled in gold, serving us the epitome of camp.

To put it simply, his vocals are phenomenal
Who needs magic when you have the voice of a Broadway angel? This bibbidi-bobbidi-boo did not come to play. If this Cinderella is a musical, we’d like to see this fairy godmother deal signed, sealed, and delivered to Porter today.
He’s inspirational, just like a fairy godmother should be
It’s safe to say that Billy Porter has persevered throughout his career and triumphed over some evil step-sisters to get to where he is today.
Thank you God for creating @theebillyporter! This is the kind of representation I wish I had growing up! When he sang Love is on the Way, he didn’t know he was singing about himself! pic.twitter.com/NyUzWR6UPB

So why is this not a done deal yet? @Sony, your perfect fairy godmother is standing right in front of you! *Sigh.* While we wait for the official confirmation to come through, you can look forward to seeing Billy star in next year’s comedy Like a Boss alongside Tiffany Haddish.
