Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are one of the few celebrity couples who appear to genuinely have fun appearing at A-list events and posing on the red carpet. That carefree attitude extends to their marriage, with the pair often poking fun at one another in interviews and on social media.
The backstory on this latest war of wits: To celebrate Lively’s 30th birthday in August, Reynolds posted a pic of the pair from the 2014 Met Gala and largely cropped out his stunning wife and captioned the photo “Happy birthday to my amazing wife.” Funny, right? 1.4 million people thought so anyway.
Well, not to be outdone, Lively waited for Reynold’s birthday this month and posted a picture of her husband with another famous Canadian Ryan, in this case Ryan Gosling. Lively kept the focus squarely on the handsome La La Land star, cropping her husband almost entirely out of the photo and getting sweet, sweet revenge in the process.
If you’re at all familiar with these two, you know they don’t limit it to birthdays. Lively poked fun at her husband and herself earlier this month while promoting her new film, All I See Is You. While Lively had a record seven outfits changes in one day for press events, Reynolds dared to wear the same outfit all night, with Lively hilariously tagging him as ‘lazy.’
And it’s not just digs. Dressed in a haute couture basketball ensemble for the same press tour, Lively called Reynolds “The balls to my basket” earlier in the week. Aw, that’s love. We think.
The laughs aren’t just for public consumption; the pair are always up for sharing funny stories from their home life, which sounds like a total blast. A really, really attractive total blast. During a 2016 appearance on The Tonight Show, Lively joked that she’s being tortured on planes by all the people watching Deadpool, forcing her to constantly see sex montages of her husband.
Reynolds revealed in a 2016 interview that torturing his wife extends beyond her birthday and airplane rides into their every day life when he uses his ‘trailer’ voice to narrate their lives.
The torture also followed Lively into the delivery room for their first child, with Reynolds playing Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” Too soon, Ryan. Hilarious, but too soon.
We love these two together and look forward to many more years of hilarious posts and interviews, as long as Andrew Garfield doesn’t get in the way.
