Heavy lies the crown and for some, that crown is being deemed the Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine. In 2017, Blake Shelton became the first country singer to be given the honour of appearing on the cover of the highly anticipated issue, a title that Shelton didn’t feel fit.Shelton was interviewed by Gayle King this week as a part of a new special with the CBS This Morning host on his road to the Grammys. But before the pair could talk about Shelton’s upcoming performance on Sunday, the topic turned his infamous cover. “I remember I called my manager, he said, ‘They want to put you as the Sexiest Man Alive,'” said Shelton. “And I’m like, ‘Wh— what?! I remember when that magazine came out, you know, of course there’s gonna be blowback and hate. But I remember, I was like, ‘Man, they’re right.’ Like, I don’t disagree with any of this that I’m hearin’.”Sitting next to girlfriend Gwen Stefani, Shelton joked that he agreed with the haters. “I remember some of the tweets — you know, before I canceled social media — it was like, ‘Wait a minute, Blake Shelton‘s the Sexiest Man Alive? Did every other man on the planet die or something?'” he continues. “Come on, let’s face it — they screwed up.”[video_embed id='1881168']RELATED: Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton debut new video[/video_embed]Turning slightly more serious, Shelton and King also discussed Shelton’s Grammy nomination for Best Country Solo Performance for his song “God’s Country.” The new nomination is Shelton’s eighth, with no wins. “I’ve kind of put the Grammys so far outta my mind and off my radar that I didn’t even know that it was that season, that it was Grammy time, you know? There was a time in my career where we’d be sitting on pins and needles,” said Shelton.Blake said that after a 20-year career and a handful of nominations with no wins, he felt as though the Grammy window had closed. “That time came and went,” adding “I truly felt like I was at the point in my career where awards and things, those were kind of in the past. And now I’m just lucky enough to still have some records that get played on the radio and be thankful for that, you know?” As part of the Gayle King Grammy Special, Shelton and Stefani, who are performing together at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, played a rapid-fire question round with King where they picked their favourite songs and described where they see themselves in the future. The couple agreed that watching Stefani’s sons playing football sounded like a good plan. Total couple goals. Earlier this month, Stefani and Shelton were among the first performers announced for this year’s Grammy Awards. The pair will perform their new duet “Nobody But You” on Sunday’s show, which will also feature performances from Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, the Jonas Brothers, Camila Cabello, H.E.R., Rosalia, Tyler The Creator and returning host Alicia Keys. The new season of The Voice returns with Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Nick Jonas on Monday, February 24.[video_embed id='1881295']BEFORE YOU GO: Phoebe Waller-Bridge shows off painted-on six-pack[/video_embed]
