It’s a sad day for Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, country music fans and people who were hoping for more appearances by Lambert on The Voice. The couple of four years have announced they’re divorcing, which means we can expect some sad songs coming from them in the next few months.
“This is not the future we envisioned,” they said in a statement to Us Weekly. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
They first met in 2005, when Shelton was still married to his first wife, Kaynette Gern. She and Shelton divorced a year later and he and Lambert began dating soon after. They were married in May 2011 and have since become country music’s power couple. Until now, sadly.
Aside from being adorable together, they also collaborated several times, so anyone hoping they would team up again for a song should probably find a new dream. Or keep listening to the songs on repeat — whichever.
The two have been denying marriage problems for a while, and while both said there was no cheating going on, both Shelton and Lambert admitted that their schedules kept them apart more often than not.
Excuse us as we cry tears in our beers to country music. How apropos.
