The iconic band has released a video for their new single “Fun” and it’s got us feeling like we just took a step back in time. But a step into the future, too, because the music vid is set in outer space.
In it, Debbie Harry and bandmates, including guitarist Chris Stein and drummer Clem Burkeare, look like total badasses who know they’re badasses. (They’ve earned it.) There’s a spaceship, and everyone arrives on a desolate planet only to end up at a wild party. Also spotted in the mix is a majestic white horse — the whole thing is a psychedelic adventure that we want to ride again and again.
The video, directed by Dikayl Rimmasch (the same dude who did Beyoncé‘s “Lemonade”), is not only a reminder of the sheer talent that is Blondie, but the power of Debbie Harry. This woman — who, might we add, is 71 (71!) and looks insanely fit and beautiful — has been making music for decades. She’s had an extraordinary career, and it really is awesome to see a woman front a band that’s still making hit music, and touring. Take that Mick Jagger!
The walls of our room were covered in Blondie posters in our youth, and it turns out we feel the same way in 2017. Where did we put those posters, anyway? The band just announced Blondie & Garbage: The Rage and Rapture Tour, and so far there’s just one Canadian stop in Toronto this summer. Don’t forget about the rest of us up here, Blondie! We want to have “Fun” too.
