Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk have officially separated. The couple, who first started dating in 2015, have been plagued with breakup rumours for months, with the two often spotted in public without one another. Now it looks as though there was some weight to the rumblings, with People Magazine confirming the split on Thursday. We can’t say we didn’t see it coming.
According to E! News, Cooper and Shayk tried to make the relationship work, even doing a trial separation to see how they would feel living alone. “They’ve spent time apart to test the waters and see if they are better off,” an insider shared with E! News. “They have a lot invested and it’s very difficult to completely walk away from.” Now the pair are focusing their efforts on finding a co-parenting arrangement that works for their daughter, two-year-old Lea De Seine, whom they welcomed in March 2017. “They are trying out different arrangements and trying to find their way,” said the insider. “They love their little girl dearly and that’s not going to change no matter what.” Putting children first goes a long way when navigating a split, so we’re confident they’ll make it work.
Cooper and Shayk have kept their relationship as private as possible for two people in the spotlight–no pap strolls for these two. The actor, who received three nominations for his directorial debut A Star Is Born this year, and the Victoria Secret model met in the spring of 2015. The pair were first spotted at the Broadway show Finding Neverland and became more than a summer fling, with pictures of the couple celebrating Labour Day released by the media that year. Cooper and Shayk went public with their romance in April 2016, when Shayk posted a picture of the couple on her Instagram page.

At least, we think it’s the couple. The focus of the picture isn’t really on faces, but not surprisingly, it still received a lot of likes. No kidding.
Rumours of a split began to follow Cooper and Shayk this year, but it appeared that things had taken a turn for the better when Shayk accompanied Cooper to the Academy Awards. At least, everyone thought things were better on the red carpet. When it came to the show, the biggest news was Cooper’s intense performance with co-star Lady Gaga, with the two singing an intimate duet of their nominated song “Shallow.” Damage control quickly followed, with US Weekly reporting “Irina knows that Bradley and Gaga are artists. It’s a nonissue for her. They were in character putting on an Oscar performance” and Gaga herself weighing in during a chat with Jimmy Kimmel: “Yeah, people saw love, and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see. I mean, this is a love song, ‘Shallow.’ The movie, A Star Is Born, it’s a love story. We worked so hard. We worked all week on that [Oscar] performance.”
We hope that’s true, but it probably didn’t help that Gaga and fiancé Christian Carino had called off their engagement only days before the Oscars. Their separation came on the heels of an almost year-long publicity campaign by Cooper and Gaga for the A Star Is Born remake, which featured several interviews of the pair singing one another’s praises.
Whatever the reason for Cooper and Shayk’s separation, we have no doubt the private couple will continue to keep a low profile during this time, especially while trying to make the transition as smooth as possible for their daughter. We wish them all the best.
