The Marvel universe is expanding faster than a pair of superhero tights on frightened blowfish, and it can be hard to keep track of all the new superheroes. But one such hero we’re actually, legitimately, for realsies looking forward to seeing traipse around in Latex and Spandex is Captain Marvel. Not only because the hero is a female, crime-fighting badass, but also because Brie Larson is rumoured to be a potential leading candidate for the role in Marvel Studio’s latest production.
If you’re not familiar with Captain Marvel, you’re forgiven.
Here’s the gist: Carol Danvers is an Air Force pilot by day, and Marvel, a superhero with alien-DNA coursing through her veins, giving her superhuman strength, energy projection and the mother of all superpowers, flight, by night. Captain Marvel got her own comic series in 2012 and has since garnered a base of mostly female fans who see her as the champion for women in comic books. And we can totally get behind that.
We’ve already recognized Brie Larson as an acting powerhouse. She absolutely CRUSHED her starring role in Room, which won her an Oscar and vaulted her name to the top of Hollywood’s A List.
And we know she has potential to be super cute. Remember her and Jacob Tremblay on the red carpets? She looked and acted more like his big sister than his mother, the role she played in the movie.
We fully expect that, if she does get the part, as the “sources” tell Vanity Fair, that she’ll do a fantastic—no, marvellous—job of it.
