Britney Spears has endured one of the most public love-hate relationships with paparazzi of any star, and now it appears that the singer is currently on the outs with the photogs. Using her Instagram to set the record straight, Spears is encouraging fans to question the images of her they see released by media outlets. It’s not Britney, B.

Spears is currently on a well-deserved vacation in Miami with longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari, but took a break from her boating and jet skiing to address photos she’s seen of herself circulating online. Sharing her thoughts in an Insta story, Spears wears a red bikini top and black bottoms while jokingly asking fans to ‘not judge her’ at the moment because she looks ‘haggard.’ Girlfriend looks great as always. In her first of three videos, Spears addresses the controversy that she’s not posting her own social media content and is sharing images that were shot months earlier, saying, “My question to all of you is: A lot of fans … criticize people and say that the pictures and videos that they’re posting are either not [current] or they’re fake.”

Continuing, Spears says, “But no one ever really asks: Are the paparazzi pictures fake? And do the paparazzi people do stuff to the pictures? And is the news really real? It’s a conspiracy theory that I’m actually interested in.” We can see why Spears would be interested. As one of the most photographed celebs of the past decade, the star has endured constant scrutiny in the media, often because of paparazzi photos. Finally addressing what Spears says is the latest example of paparazzi altering her pics, the popstar says “Yesterday I went swimming. [In some paparazzi photos], I look like I’m 40 pounds bigger than I am today. This is how I am right now,” says Spears as she turns for the camera. “I’m skinny as a needle. You tell me: What is real?”

Spears again addressed the photoshopping of images on Monday, posting another video showing off her svelte figure next to an image that the singer alludes has been altered to make her look heavier. Spears captioned the video, writing, “People always say people or celebrities cheat with their images, but never do they question the papparazzi for selling your pic that they have messed with !!!! This was all done within the same 17 hours !!!!”

As someone who has had so much of her narrative controlled by the media and has endured ups and downs in her career and in her personal life on a worldwide stage, we can understand Spears wanting to take back her agency and be in charge of her own message. It’s unfortunate that photoshopped pictures may be being used to alter Spears’ image to the point where she feels the need to publicly address the situation, but one of the positives of social media is that celebrities are able to quickly and directly comment on issues if they so wish, something that Spears has been doing frequently as of late.

Instead of searching for pictures of Spears that show the star looking different (we’re not going to say looking bad because Brit always looks great), we’re going to focus on the content that is Britney-approved. Like this super cute pic of Spears and Asghari riding bikes.
