After postponing her Vegas show, things aren’t looking up for Britney Spears. According to reports from TMZ, sources close to the singer have shared that she has been in a deep despair surrounding her father Jamie Spears’ declining health. Spears reportedly admitted herself into a health facility last week and will remain at the facility for 30 days.
Jamie Spears’ health complications came on quickly and prompted Britney to cancel her upcoming Vegas residency Domination before it even began in order to focus on taking care of him and spend time with her family. In a January Instagram post, the “Toxic” singer explained to fans that her dad was hospitalized and “nearly died” a few months earlier and though he “came out of it alive… he still has a long road ahead of him.”
” I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand.”

I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.
TMZ’s sources say Jamie Spears’ health has not improved and he has undergone two major surgeries on his intestines and colon since Britney’s announcement.
Shortly before the news broke, Britney posted a seemingly positive statement on Instagram with the caption, “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time'” — possibly confirming that she’s taking some “me time” to focus on her own mental health.

Britney has struggled with mental health issues in the past, most publicly in 2007-2008 when the stresses of young stardom, a recent divorce and a contentious custody battle drove her to a very public meltdown. While those events resulted in several dark years for the singer where she stepped away from the spotlight, she’s since focused on her own mental and physical health, and, under the guidance of a conservatorship, has become a positive example of how a person can turn their life around.
We hope Britney’s choice to pause and focus on her mental health is her proactive way of coping with an overwhelming situation and wish her the best.
