New parents are often on the receiving end of unsolicited advice, which can range from helpful to patronizing, with a side of shaming for good measure. As any parent with more than one child knows, no two babies are the same, which can make useful advice even more difficult to come by. That’s why while Busy Philipps may be ecstatic that her Dawson’s Creek co-stars and friends Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson are both expecting babies (separately—Jen died and Joey and Pacey were always end game) she’s not about to start doling out advice.Philipps, who is mom to daughters Birdie and Cricket, spoke to Us Weekly recently and shared her POV on giving advice, which is, simply put, to not. “I make it a point to never give anyone advice about babies or kids just because everyone’s experience is so unique,” said Philipps. “Every baby is different and it’s just not the kind of thing—you can prepare all you want and get all the stuff and it still doesn’t help.”The actress and writer did add that there is one small caveat to her no-advice stance, which is to give new parents some reassurance. That is something they can never get enough of, especially in the early months when sleep is minimal and breakdowns for baby and parents are at their highest. “The only thing that a new parent needs to know is that they will figure it out. Because everyone does,” she told Us.[video_embed id='1905429']RELATED: Jodie Turner-Smith doesn’t want to raise kids in America or the U.K.[/video_embed]Williams is already mom to 14-year-old Matilda, whose father is the late Heath Ledger. The actress is now expecting her second child with fiancé Thomas Kail, whom she worked with on 2019’s Fosse/Verdon. Williams won a Golden Globe and Emmy in the Best Actress category for her role as dancer Gwen Verdon and attended each award shows with Philipps, who has been William’s red carpet date for years. Philipps praised her close friend in her 2018 book This Will Only Hurt A Little, calling her an amazing actor and mother.
In December, Jackson and girlfriend Jodie Turner-Smith turned heads on the red carpet for Turner-Smith’s movie Queen & Slim. The actress was wearing a new diamond ring and appeared to be pregnant, confirming the news in early 2020. In January, she told the Sunday Times that the couple, who are expecting a girl, are considering raising their daughter in Jackson’s native Canada in an effort to get away from the racism in the U.S. and Turner-Smith’s home country in the U.K.The private couple have been relatively tight-lipped about their relationship and pregnancy, but Jackson has remained close with his Dawson’s Creek castmates and can likely call on them for help on the parenting front. And while Philipps may be going the no-advice is the best advice route, Jackson can always check in with longtime friend and father of five James Van Der Beek for the scoop on how to deal with teething and colic. Sure, no kid is the same, but after five of them you should have some good general tips and tricks.[video_embed id='1915375']BEFORE YOU GO: Katy Perry is pregnant[/video_embed]
