Mark Ronson has made a career out of pulling some of the best work out of music’s biggest names. The producer has won Grammys with Amy Winehouse, topped the charts with Bruno Mars, taken home an Academy Award with Lady Gaga, and in his latest single “Find U Again,” has created a sound we’ve never heard from Camila Cabello.
The pair released the music video for their new collaboration on Tuesday and seemed to take inspiration from Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 film Kill Bill. The black and white video features subtitles to help set the scene, revealing that a series of bounty hunters, including one played by Ronson, are on the hunt for Cabello, who dons a blonde wig while she performs at a night club in the middle of the desert. Directed by Bradley and Pablo, whose credits include “Blame It On Your Love” with Charli XCX, “Like That” with Kris Wu (吴亦凡) and “Just Hold On” with Steve Aoki, the video builds to its cinematic finish as the group of bounty hunters descend on Cabello’s night club, with the tone of the visuals set off by the song’s retro electronic dance vibe.
The new song is part of Mark Ronson’s fifth studio album Late Night Feelings, which the Grammy-winning producer describes as a collection of ‘sad bangers’ inspired by the London-born artist’s recent separation from wife Joséphine de La Baume. The album includes the lead single “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart,” which Ronson released with Miley Cyrus in November 2018. The melancholy pop track kicked off a huge reintroduction of Ronson following his massive success with Bruno Mars and “Uptown Funk” in 2014 (and 2015, 2016, 2017…the song is still huge). That reintroduction also included Ronson reuniting with Lady Gaga on 2018’s A Star Is Born soundtrack, having previously produced a handful of songs on Gaga’s fourth solo studio album Joanne. The pair took home the Oscar and the Golden Globe earlier this year for Best Original Song for “Shallow.”
As for Cabello, “Find U Again” is her second big-name collaboration in recent weeks, with the singer teaming up with Canadian pop superstar Shawn Mendes on the track “Senorita.” The pair first worked together back in 2015, taking home multiple iHeartRadio MMVAs for the dark and sexy “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
Mendes and Cabello’s latest steamy duet not only raised eyebrows because of its extra-sexy music video, but because of the track’s timing. Cabello recently broke up with longtime boyfriend Matthew Hussey and although she and Mendes’ have denied they’re more than friends, the pair have been photographed together recently, with paparazzi catching the musicians holding hands while on their way to brunch. We know what they’re doing this summer. Getting waffles.
