Crying during an emotional performance at the Grammys is nothing new, but Camila Cabello’s stunning work with her personal track “First Man” may have hit a new record when it comes to making the room weep the fastest. The singer took the stage on Sunday night to sing a song she wrote for her father Alejandro Cabello, leaving her pops, and just about everyone else watching, in full-body sobs. The father and daughter duo walked the red carpet together earlier (for a look at the best and worst looks of the night, head here) in the night before Camila took the stage to sing the moving track from her album Romance around the show’s halfway mark. The singer, who is up for one award this year for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Señorita,” opted not to perform the sexy hit single with duet partner and boyfriend Shawn Mendes. Instead, Cabello sang “First Man,” a song that was inspired in part by her relationship with her father.Taking the stage with a simple set and piano backing, Cabello sang “I swear on my heart / That he's a good man / I promise he loves me / He'd never hurt me / You held me so tight / Now someone else can / But you were the first man that really loved me.” Flanked by a video screen on each side of her that showed home videos from Cabello’s childhood, the singer eventually made her way down a long staircase to the front row of the audience where her father Alejandro was understandably in tears, as was anyone with a heart. And just like that, we were all Gwen Stefani needing a minute to cry privately. Cabello has frequently spoken about her tight relationship with her family, including her father Alejandro. In her 2019 YouTube documentary Made In Miami, Cabello spoke about the sacrifices her parents made for her and her sister growing up. Cabello revealed that she and her mother moved from her native Cuba to the United States when the singer was six and were separated from Alejandro for years until he was able to join his family in the U.S.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Camila Cabello on the first time she performed ‘Señorita’ with Shawn Mendes[/video_embed]Following the release of the single in December, Cabello uploaded a picture of herself with her dad to her Instagram and thanked her fans for their response to the personal track. “Guys, it melts my heart seeing you send pictures of you and your dads because of First Man,” wrote Cabello.Cabello’s Grammys performance got a lot of love on social media including a shout out from Grammy-winner Paula Abdul. The Bold Type’s Katie Stevens had the perfect emoji description of Cabello’s performance. Please raise your hand if your heart has been personally victimized by Camila Cabello singing to her dad at the Grammy Awards. On January 9, Cabello posted a picture of herself on-set with her parents on her Instagram, which could mean the singer is planning a music video for “First Man.” Save your tissues, people. You’re gonna need them again.[video_embed id='1882898']RELATED: We're throwing it back to early interviews with Demi, Ariana and more Grammy nominees[/video_embed]
