We don’t think athletes from other countries really understand what they’re up against when they come face-to-face with a Canadian.

You’re not just competing with someone who hits the gym on the regular, or trains more than most. You’re up against someone who’s braved our harsh, frozen temperatures. Someone who can lift a moose with one arm while taming a beaver with another. We’re the survivors of the true north, strong and free to the bitter end.

Or at least, that seems to be the message from the latest hype ad from Team Canada, which says that our athletes have “ice” in their veins. It’s a lot more of a badass ad than you’d expect from a country that boasts modesty and politeness as some of its best qualities. It shows Canada’s athletes running barefoot through the snow, jumping through fire and sprinting alongside wolves. But it certainly makes a valid point.
