It may not happen soon, but there’s no time like the present to get excited. In the future you may be receiving your government tax benefits and birthday cards from your aunt via drone. That’s right, people, someday a drone might swoop in every morning with your daily delivery. How cool would that be? In our minds, it will be kind of like when you get a delivery via owl in Harry Potter. A robot owl.

According to CP there’s no timeline yet on when drone testing will begin but they “regularly look at emerging technologies in the marketplace.” Maybe we’ll actually start sending those thank-you notes our mom is always on us for if snail mail is going to be cool again.

Drones seem like the perfect thing to revitalize the postal system, which after the whole community mailbox debacle of 2015 is much needed. This seems like something the Canadian people can get behind rather than just being confused about where their mail will end up and slightly enraged that they have to walk down the street to get it. That was a weird time in Canadian history.

There’s still a place for snail mail, but maybe it’s high up in the sky in a mechanical self-flying device.
