Before there was Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines, there was Denise Garrido and Riza Santos. While Steve Harvey certainly made one of the most cringe-worthy TV appearances of all time, it has happened before. Right here in Canada. See, in 2013 at the Miss Universe Canada pageant, the results were flubbed, but that was never revealed on-camera.

No, the judges left the embarrassing and uncomfortable changing of the crown to a quiet meeting, 24-hours after the decision was made. In the video above, Garrido walks us through how she felt losing her crown, while Santos tells us what it’s like to be the person who thought she lost, but actually won.

So, it happens in the United States, it happens in Canada and who knows where else this is happening. Pageants, get it together.
