Ashley Callingbull recently made us proud by becoming the first Canadian and the first First Nations woman to win the Mrs. Universe pageant. She’s a trailblazer, an inspiration for women around the world, and drop-dead gorgeous to boot. She could do no wrong, it seemed…at least until she went and got her eyebrows tattooed and the Internet jumped down her throat.
Ah, the Internet.
The 25-year-old actor/director underwent the procedure yesterday (here’s The Social‘s Traci getting it done, in case you’re not familiar with the beauty trend), posting an honest and positive before-and-after update on Facebook. The comments quickly came spilling in, and there were many dissenters. Surprise! The internet can be a real jerk sometimes.
But, true to her pioneering spirit, the reigning Mrs. Universe hit back with a tactful but blunt response.
Here’s what it said:
“If you want to unfollow me for filling in my brows with semi permanent tattoos that only last 6 months, then you need to reevaluate your life priorities. Lol. If some of you haven’t noticed I’m an actress and I model from time to time. This saves time from constantly buying makeup to fill them in and it also covers a scar on my brow where I can’t grow hair,” she wrote. “I’m very happy with these results and that’s all that matters. I also have two more tattoos. One on each wrist. Names of my late grandmother and my husband. Go crazy if you like hahaha. In the end it’s my body and no one is entitled to tell me what to do with it. Spread love and stay away from the haterade folks.”
Nice! Don’t you love a good hater callout? We sure do. The argument really does end, as she points out, with the fact that it’s her body and she may do as she pleases with it, but, also, we feel obliged to mention that her eyebrows look fantastic now! (As do her eyelashes, and pretty much everything else about her.)
Once again, Callingbull is pushing the boundaries and challenging stereotypes. She really is the coolest Mrs Universe ever—and she’s our very own.
