Rick Moranis is a Canadian comedy legend who made us all laugh on SCTV, in the '80s cult classic Ghostbusters, and the smash hit Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. When he reached the heights of fame, he gave up his lucrative Hollywood career to care for his kids and ill wife who subsequently died of cancer. He is a Canadian treasure and a hero. And some horrible, unknown assailant just attacked him on the streets of NYC.CCTV video footage released Friday morning shows the actor, who recently came out of retirement just for Ryan Reynolds to film this cute Mint Mobile commercial, walking alone on an empty Manhattan street when a man in an “I Love NY” hoodie punches Moranis to the ground without warning. The unknown man calmly strides away as if nothing happened while Moranis stays on the ground. We warn you, the shocking video isn’t nice to see. While the video is from a distance and Moranis’s face is blurred, the New York Police Department confirmed that the victim of the attack, which occurred on Thursday, October 1st, was indeed the comedy legend. The NYPD, who also posted the video on social media, stating the attack occurred near Central Park West near West 70th streets, and offered a reward of up to $2500 for any information that might lead to an arrest. At press time, Moranis himself hasn’t yet spoken publicly about this vicious assault, but according to the NYPD, the actor first went to the hospital with pain in his neck, back and hip before going to a precinct to report the crime. After news of the attack broke, it became clear that if there's one thing everyone can agree on in 2020, it's that nobody hurts Rick Moranis. The NYPD are asking anyone with information to call New York’s Crime Stopper’s at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), and even the NYPD’s Twitter account, @NYPDTips, will accept information.Get better soon, Rick! We hope this man is brought to justice!
