Concerts get cancelled and rescheduled all the time but mere minutes before an artist is supposed to be on stage? That’s rare but it’s exactly what happened to Cardi B in Indianapolis on Tuesday night when the rapper was forced to abruptly call off her performance.

Unlike some stars who’ve had to put a halt to live shows because of illness or travel issues or time to recover from plastic surgery (more on that in a minute), Cardi’s cancellation was all about safety after a security threat was determined. In a tweet shortly before Cardi was supposed to bust out some of her hits at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the concert had to be cancelled (though the IMPD quickly clarified it was postponed) following an “unverified threat to the artist.” The IMPD did reassure everyone that there was “no immediate threat to public safety” and the investigation was ongoing, leaving fans disappointed with some believing the rapper wasn’t even there. She was.

Cardi took to her social media accounts to apologize and confirm she was indeed in town, at the venue, and even “rehearsing a new move” she was excited to include in her show. But because authorities were investigating the matter, she was forced to cancel. “My safety and your safety first,” she wrote, adding that promoters had already rescheduled the show.

“Im [sic] so sorry guys I never dealt with a situation like this before and I’m not taking any chances. I love you guys.” The venue also confirmed the concert was postponed, revealing that the rescheduled date is September 11 and all tickets for the original date would be honoured and those who aren’t able to make that date can get a full refund.

This may be the first time Cardi has had to postpone a concert due to safety concerns but she has rescheduled performances before. Back in May, the rapper was put on “strict doctor’s orders” after a liposuction procedure meant she had to slow things down and heal.

“You know, I hate cancelling shows because I love money,” Cardi said in a video on Instagram at the time. “I’m a money addict, and I get paid a lot of money, a lot of money for these shows … like I’m cancelling millions of dollars in shows. But like, health is wealth, so I have to do what I have to do. My breasts gotta f****in’ heal, and it is what it is.”
