Raise your hand if you had Carole Baskin competing on Dancing With The Stars on your 2020 Bingo card. *raises all the hands* That’s right, Monday night was the premiere of the new DWTS season, with new host Tyra Banks, and the woman who stole the show on the mega-hit Netflix series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness was the biggest talk of the night. We’re not sure if ABC and DWTS producers remember that the show insinuated she killed her husband Don Lewis (who went missing in 1997) and fed him to her tigers, but boy did they love playing up the tiger thing.Case in point: Baskin showed up wearing a pink tiger printed leotard dress and danced to—you guessed it—“Eye of the Tiger.” Even her introduction as one of the contestants sent shockwaves because she was seemingly clawing and gnashing at the camera like a lion. Ladies and germs, a new meme for 2020 is upon us. In the words of Lady Gaga, "Oh my God nooo!" Paired up with professional dancer Pasha Pashkov, Baskin muddled her way through the pasodoble which earned her pretty dismal starting marks from the judges (4, 4, 3, for a total of 11 out of 30 points). Yikes.
If this rubs you the wrong way, you’re not alone. More than a few DWTS viewers were left with a bad taste in their mouth at Baskin’s inclusion. During the commercial break, some viewers in Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida, were treated to this wonderfully-timed commercial from the family of Baskin’s missing husband Don Lewis. His three daughters, his former assistant and family attorney asked that viewers with any information on Lewis’ disappearance reach out to a tip line. They also suggested they were interested in any tips that reveal Baskin’s involvement in his disappearance. A $100,000 reward has been funded for the investigation.
Of course the fact that Don Lewis’ family purposefully bought a commercial slot during Baskin’s DWTS debut sent Twitter into overdrive.
