We don’t imagine Céline Dion has much down-time these days (or ever, really). Currently on her first world tour in over a decade, Dion performed two sold-out shows at Scotiabank Arena, and the music legend still managed to stop by the Cats: The Musical in Toronto this week.Following a performance at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre last night, Dion met up with the Toronto cast of Cats, posting to her Instagram to say that the show was ‘absolutely sensational’. And, for the record, the picture they took was also sensational.
Considering she famously covered the show’s anthem back in 1987, it’s giving us all the #ThrowbackThursday feels.Although we may be accustomed to seeing her hit the stage in beautiful gowns and epic pantsuits, there is an incredible video of a young Dion, only 19 years old, belting out a mind-blowing rendition of ‘Memory’, while dressed up as — you guessed it — a cat. Little did audience members know at the time (or, maybe they had a hunch after hearing her hit those high notes), Dion was well on her way to mega-stardom. Fast forward to today, and Dion is a Canadian household name, currently embarking on a world tour to promote her latest album release, ‘Courage’. Did we mention she’s 51? Do her, JLo and Jennifer Aniston have some sort of a never-look-a-day-over-35 secret the rest of us are missing out on? Is there a club? Can we join?Cats, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is undeniably legendary by Broadway standards, winning countless awards and entertaining audiences in over 30 countries and 15 languages to date. Mind you, it doesn’t stop there…Cat is officially coming to the big screen this month, in the first-ever, live-action film adaptation produced by Universal Pictures and Working Title. Featuring a (seriously) epic cast including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Idris Elba, and more, the film hits theatres December 20th. Are you excited? Because we’re excited… and we think Céline Dion probably is too.
