It’s hard to get jazzed about going to the doctor’s office, ever. It usually involves being poked and prodded and measured — the latter’s sometimes the most uncomfortable of all. The reality is, stepping on a scale sucks, especially when you’re struggling to shed pounds or manage weight.
For Mariah Herrera, a new mom in Oregon, the changes in her body post-pregnancy were hard to handle, and being weighed brought on a bout of anxiety. But her stress was soothed when she walked into the clinic and was greeted by a heartwarming note stuck next to the scale.
Herrera uploaded a snap of the hot pink Post-It with these words:
“This is the second time I’ve seen this in the doctor’s office and I LOVE IT. SERIOUSLY these should come with every scale! Completely changes how I feel about stepping on the scale especially because I know I’m working on myself,” Herrera captioned the snapshot.
Talk about an awesome nurse who doesn’t want her patients to feel discourage by the number that pops up on the scale. Wouldn’t it be great to see this kind of body positive messaging next to all scales? It immediately makes the stress of being weighed melt away.
“I had a terrible pregnancy, a complicated delivery and a 100-plus pound weight gain. I ate everything in sight when I was pregnant and it completely altered everything in my body,” the 24-year-old said in an interview with Today.
The photos of the new mom and her newborn babe make the heartwarming trip to the doc’s office all the more adorable.
The nurse behind the body positive note has yet to be identified, but this is one healthcare worker who most definitely deserves a raise. Or, at the very least, a solid high-five.
