Chelsea Clinton may be busy touring the world, writing children’s books, and working on global health policy, but like every other human she still made time to watch Beyoncé’s instantly iconic Homecoming documentary on Netflix. And like every woman who has ever given birth, Clinton was not impressed with Jay-Z’s lack of enthusiasm over his wife’s weight loss.
In a new profile piece with The Cut, Clinton remembers the moment in Homecoming when Beyoncé proudly showed off her weight loss to husband Jay-Z. Following the birth of her twins (that’s one person carrying *two* human beings inside them), Beyoncé went on a strict vegan diet, working out day and night to prepare for her historic Coachella set. After months of sweat and determination, Beyoncé was able to fit into an old costume from the couple’s On The Run II Tour. Telling the camera “This is a serious accomplishment because I did not think I’d be able to get back into my old costume. I’m actually in it and I can still move. I still have a ways to go, but this makes me feel good, ‘cause I’ve been sacrificing and working hard,” Bey added that this was a ‘huge accomplishment’ and wanted to FaceTime her husband. As for Jay’s response? “All right.” That’s it?
Recalling the conversation she had with husband Marc Mezvinsky while watching Homecoming, Clinton told The Cut “I said, ‘Marc, if that’s ever me, you better have more enthusiasm.’” The mom of two continued, saying “It wasn’t the ‘I’m so proud of you. That’s amazing’ that I arguably think any woman deserves, particularly someone who has clearly worked herself body, mind, heart, soul, and spirit to get to that place. Marc was like, ‘Duly noted.’ And I was like, ‘I bet every woman watching this has this sense of She deserves more enthusiasm. Marc was like, ‘I got it. Can we go back to watching it, please? We’ve talked about it three times in the last 90 seconds.’”
Clinton is not the only person that was less than thrilled with Jay-Z’s less than thrilling response to his wife’s hard work.
I must say that @ChelseaClinton was not wrong when she said: ‘I bet every woman watching this has this sense of she deserves more enthusiasm.’ [Referring to Jay Z’s lame ass ‘All right!’ response after Beyonce showed him that she could fit a pre-twin bearing costume again].

Of course, there is the other side of the argument, which is that Jay-Z’s underwhelmed response was done on purpose to be sensitive to his wife. It’s possible that Jay-Z was concerned that getting excited and applauding Beyoncé’s weight loss would send the message that it was important for her to lose weight after giving birth, with Jay instead wanting to show that he didn’t care what number was on the scale. Still, if a person has literally worked their butt off doing anything, some enthusiasm is warranted.
