Nowadays everyone wants a piece of Prince Harry. Because, well, look at him. He’s kind of perfect, the ginger Prince Charming who is great with kids but has just enough of a bad boy edge to remain intriguing. For six years — on and off, but still — he was Chelsy Davy‘s royal boyfriend, and during that time she never talked about him. But she just launched her own jewelry line, and we guess she couldn’t help herself? She finally revealed why their relationship didn’t work and it’s pretty much what we expected all along: the constant attention she got while she dated Harry was not her cup of Twinings.

“It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable,” she told The Times. “I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope.”

She described herself as “a normal kid,” but all the scrutiny was “hard.” Totally understandable, as tabloids would plaster her photo on their covers with words like “leggy Zimbabwean blonde” and “tumbling out of nightclubs” accompanying them. And because neither she, nor Harry discussed their relationship, it was often described as “turbulent.” Which it may very well have been, but, again, we get it. They were young, attractive, privileged, and probably more than a little stupid when it came to love.

The two met while Davy attended Stowe School, during Harry’s gap year between Eton College and the Army, and dated from 2004 to 2010. They spent a lot of time in Africa before they eventually split, with Chelsy returning to Zimbabwe to get away from the spotlight.

“It was nuts,” she said. “That’s also why I wanted to go back to Africa. Now it’s calm, it’s fine.”

Chelsy, who now spends most of her time in London, and Harry still run in the same social circles and she admits they’re still close. “I think we will always be good friends.” But a 2.0 version of Harry and Chelsy isn’t in the cards. Five years ago, Davy attended Will and Kate’s wedding where she reportedly told friends she would never marry Harry because, “It’s not a life for me.” And now her chat with The Times only solidifies that.

For some of us who had been hoping the two would find their way back to one another with Chelsy as the Kate to his Will, it’s kind of sad. It really seems over now. Like, there’s zero chance. But we get it Chels. We guess.

OK, not really but we’ll take your word for it.
