We’d be hard pressed to find someone who’d willingly choose to turn down a squad invite from Taylor Swift in today’s celeb world, but it turns out one youngin’ has outed herself. The ever smart and beautiful Chloë Grace Moretz gave T-Swift a resounding no when she tried to expand her ever-growing squad. Sorry folks, but Moretz won’t be gracing the stage of a T-Swift concert anytime soon.
In fact, she’s not a fan of Swifty’s entourage, telling U.K.’s Complex magazine, “They appropriate exclusivity. They’re cliques!” with a tone described as “exasperation.”
When asked to elaborate on the invite, the 19-year-old kept it short and sweet — and all business, simply saying, “She’s a very talented person.”
And that’s how you do that.
Moretz admits that as she’s gotten older, she’s become more outspoken and willing to voice her opinions.
“There were definitely moments when I was 13 or 14 and was worried about not being liked if I spoke out, but I realized that’s kind of this forced, societal feminist outlook of how women should be — they should feel sorry for speaking out.” she said, before elaborating: “It’s about equality — and it’s not just about women being powerful. It’s about races being powerful; genders being powerful.”
Her stance on gender equality has even impacted the projects she takes part in, including the reimagining of The Little Mermaid.
“We can’t make this regressive tale in a modern world,” she said. “We’re going to flip it on its head. It’s going to feel good for women and men in the sense that it’s not just appropriating feminism, and it’s not leaning on regressive stereotypes.”
Don’t you just love her? We can just picture Chloë and Zendaya, another candid 19-year-old, hanging out, eloquently and passionately talking about life, being good role models and awesome young women in general? Of course, Zendaya IS a part of Taylor’s squad but we bet Chloë won’t make her choose. Because can’t we all just get along?
