Hollywood hunk (we calls ’em like we sees ’em) Chris Pratt is on the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly’s Summer Movie Preview edition thanks to the reprisal of his role as Owen Grady in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. But after some discussion of dinosaurs and trilogies (get ready for a third Jurassic World film), the topic of conversation switched to Pratt’s personal life, namely his separation from wife Anna Faris. “Divorce sucks,” Pratt tells the magazine. Succinct and accurate.

The famous pair announced their separation, after eight years of marriage, back in August 2017. Posting on behalf of the couple on his Facebook page, Pratt said “Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.”

Faris was often questioned about the pair’s split in the months following their announcement, at which time she was promoting her autobiography Unqualified. Meanwhile, Pratt was filming Avengers: Infinity War and therefore not doing interviews, but with the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, it’s now Pratt’s turn to talk divorce.

In the latest issue of EW, Pratt echoes Faris’ previous statements on the divorce, saying the couple is keeping their focus on their son Jack. “But at the end of the day, we’ve got a great kid who’s got two parents who love him very much. And we’re finding a way to navigate this while still remaining friends and still being kind to one another,” says Pratt.

The actor also adds that he feels both he and Faris are continuing to move forward, with their decision ultimately for the best. “It’s not ideal, but yeah, I think both of us are actually probably doing better.”

Divorce is tough, regardless of whether you’re a regular couple or on the cover of magazines, but it’s great to see the pair working together to co-parent their son.

The EW Summer Movie Preview featuring Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is out this week and you can see Pratt and his co-star Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom when it hits theatres on June 22.
