As we all know, Oscar rage has been at an all time high over the past couple weeks. Hollywood has been justifiably fuming over the non-existent diversity among this year’s #OscarsSoWhite nominees. So much so that a growing list of actors and directors have been declaring boycotts against the show and have been calling for Chris Rock to step down as host.
We now know that Chris Rock ISN’T stepping down, but he is certainly planning on making a statement.
According to Academy Awards producer Reginald Hudlin, when Rock learned about all of the controversy boiling around this year’s show, he decided to completely re-write his then-finished script.
“As things got a little provocative and exciting, [Rock] said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show,'” said Hudlin. “You should expect [#OscarsSoWhite jokes]. And, yes, the Academy is ready for him to do that. They’re excited about him doing that. They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.”
It sure sounds like Rock is planning on tellin’ it like it is. We can’t wait to see what happens next month!
The 88th Academy Awards airs February 28 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
