For most aspiring singers, first comes the many open mic nights spent in dimly lit bars, then comes their (long dreamed about) discovery, and then comes the debut album. And maybe, just maybe, after a few hit songs and a buzzed-about album, an Oscar nomination. For Chrissy Metz, it was kind of like that… only, she’s making her own timeline.Universal Music Group Nashville has officially signed the This Is Us star to a record deal, and her full-length country debut album is slated for a 2020 release. To provide a little context, Metz only just announced her official foray into Country this past April at the ACMAs. And now, this announcement comes fresh on the heels of Monday's Oscar nomination for her hit song I’m Standing With You from the film Breakthrough, which tells the story of a family struck by tragedy when their adopted son falls through ice on a frozen lake in Missouri. She may be early in her career… but clearly, Metz is here to steal the whole damn show.[video_embed id='1875127']Justin Hartley and his 'This Is Us' team celebrate at the Critics' Choice Awards[/video_embed]It should also be mentioned that although we all have the same number of hours in a day as Metz, she’s also established herself as a New York Times bestselling author, and has collected no shortage of accolades alongside her This Is Us co-stars. From falling in love with her on screen, in interviews, and now on stage, her undeniable likability comes as no surprise. Paired with her talent, Metz simply has a way of “tapping into America’s emotional conscience” as UMG Nashville’s president, Cindy Mabe, said in a statement.Chrissy took to social media earlier today to share the news, letting fans in on the ‘secret she’s been keeping and dreaming about since she can remember.’
And, to no one’s surprise, her fans definitely approve. While we're waiting for that album to drop, you can catch Chrissy on This Is Us Tuesdays at 8/9mt on CTV.[video_embed id='1874985']'Joker' leads the 2020 Oscar nominations[/video_embed]
