If you know Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend, you probably also know that they’re not really huge Trump fans. Even if you’ve never heard them verbally trash the U.S. president, you’ve probably seen at least a few instances of their Twitter take-downs (John) and epic trolling (Chrissy). Well, our favourite social justice couple is at it again, this time in honour of Donald Trump’s 72nd birthday.

In lieu of a card, Chrissy and John sent POTUS a message about their disgust at the Trump administration’s announcement to begin enforcing an old immigration policy that previous administrations had deemed too harsh to actively support. The “zero tolerance” policy requires border agents to separate the children of immigrant families from their parents when they arrive at the American border seeking asylum. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the President’s Chief of Staff John Kelly have both suggested that the policy is intended as a deterrent to families that might have attempted to enter the U.S. Many people, including members of Trump’s own party, have condemned the move as immoral, anti-family and completely unacceptable.

In their birthday announcement, Teigen and Legend shared that they are donating $72,000 for each member of their family (including children Luna and Miles) to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) which is working to defend the rights of families seeking asylum in the United States.

“John and I are outraged to see and hear the horror stories of immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration,” Chrissy wrote, “These actions are cruel, anti-family and go against everything we believe this country should represent.”

She continues to say that her support for the ACLU goes beyond this one policy and they are also working to protect other rights under threat by the Trump administration including “reproductive rights, voting rights, criminal justice reform, LGBT rights [and] 1st amendment rights.”

The couple also encourages others to help “Make Trump’s Birthday Great Again,” by donating $7.20, $72 or whatever they can to the ACLU.

The funniest part of all this? Donald Trump blocked Chrissy Teigen on Twitter last year, so he won’t even be able to see her birthday message. SAD.
