We haven’t seen a Carpool Karaoke in a while, and one during primetime? Well, that takes us back to a year ago when Katy Perry joined our boy, James Corden, for an epic vocal showcase. But this year featured someone we’ve been waiting for, ever since Corden debuted Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show (weeknights at 12:30 a.m. ET on CTV Two), and it was nothing short of magnificent.
Christina Aguilera joined James and sang SO big, she almost blew the doors off the SUV. James’ passenger seat has never been so hot as Xtina crushed “Fighter,” “Dirrty” and “Genie in a Bottle” (though the last song didn’t make the TV version, just online).
Xtina dished on her Mickey Mouse Club days, sharing that both she and Britney Spears had crushes on Justin Timberlake and that she thought Ryan Gosling crushed on Brit. Man, what would’ve happened if THAT was explored?
Of course, what would a Carpool Karaoke be without a guest star? And who’s better than Melissa McCarthy. The Life of the Party star (which Aguilera appears in as well) proved she was just that when she showed off her rapping skills.
Aguilera also tried to teach Corden and McCarthy how to sing like a diva, but it went about as well as to be expected.
All laughs and entertainment aside, the thing we can all agree on is just how stellar Xtina’s voice is. Those runs, those octaves, those notes, and making it all seem so damn easy? Girlfriend is ridiculous. In the best way possible.
The Late Late Show With James Corden airs weeknights at 12:30 a.m. ET on CTV Two.
