Ciara pens powerful note to her 6-year-old son in the wake of protests

In the wake of George Floyd’s tragic death, discussion of racial injustices have sat heavy on the hearts of many around the world. Although there may be no perfect words to express the grief and anger felt by the black community, Ciara is doing her best to find them while delivering a hopeful message to her son. Amid the #BlackLivesMatter protests taking place around the world, Ciara took to social media on Sunday to pen her 6-year-old son, Future Zahir, a powerful note. Paired with a sweet selfie of the singer and her son, whom she shares with her ex Future, Ciara wrote, “My sweet Baby Boy. I pray that when you get older A CHANGE will finally have come!! I’m going to keep my FAITH! I’m praying that the losses of our Black Kings and Queens won’t be in vain."

Ciara continued, “Enough is Enough! I’m praying for UNITY! I’m praying for the powers that be to unite and decide that it’s time for a change!”

Ciara's husband, NFL quarterback Russell Wilson, with whom she shares three-year-old daughter Sienna Princess, was quick to show the pair some love, commenting “Young King. We need a change now. Enough is Enough.” Ludacris and celebrity makeup artist Yolanda Frederick also chimed in below her post to offer their support.

On June 1, Wilson also took to Twitter to share an especially impactful message, reminding his followers that "we can make change."

Ciara’s hopeful message arrives alongside powerful calls to action from countless celebrities, who are using their platform to bring attention to hardship and unjust treatment experienced by BIPOC communities. Over the weekend, Beyoncé asked her fans to "raise their voices" and demand justice for George Floyd, pushing not to "normalize this pain." Hubby Jay-Z, also took to his company Roc Nation's Instagram account, issuing a call for those in power to have the courage to do what is right. “Have the courage to look at us as humans, dads, brothers, sisters and mothers in pain and look at yourselves," he wrote.

Former NFL wide receive Victor Cruz also took to Instagram to share a heartfelt, emotional message with his followers. “I had the most difficult conversation with my daughter about the color of her skin last night.” He added, “How there are people in this world that will dislike you solely because of your race and background. Without ever knowing your story or struggles. Could tell she was a bit confused at first but she nodded in agreement right before falling asleep. I nodded in sadness as she slept. This is America.”
